Things You Should Know About Printing Services

Mar 13th, 2010 Posted in Business | no comment »

Print medium even today is a very sought after mode of spreading information to a wide range of people. The present form of the printing services industry is an outcome of years of change and evolution in printing modes and processes. Today it can fulfil almost any need of the customers related to printing and its supplementary requirements.

Large volume printing services first began somewhere around the–00′s when Gutenberg invented the first printing press and the whole concept of relief printing came into being. In this style of printing the printed image appears elevated from the base of the material, as it is in a rubber stamp. Nowadays relief printing is not as popular and has very limited uses.

Technology has always been a driving force behind innovations in printing processes that have been adopted down the years. Modern printing methods have advanced to a great extent, and each technique has its own role and function. Most clients are in fact bewildered by the plethora of printing choices before them.

Of all printing techniques in the market today, offset printing ranks the highest in popularity. This method uses a limited amount of ink to print the matter on metal plates first and then it transfers it onto paper. This cheap and quick method of printing is highly preferred and used when bulk printing is needed.

Evolution in printing technology has also introduced other printing methods like thermal printing, that involves heating of coated thermal paper, and electrostatic printing, that is similar to photocopying.

However, digital printing is the latest printing technique that is drawing a lot of attention. As the name indicates, in this technique, images are created on a computer, which are then examined for correctness and are then printed. This method is flawless and fast, but it is best suited only for a limited number of prints. The possibility of customized printing with this method has given rise to computer form printing, where a standard format is used to print documents like bills and invoices whose contents differ in tune with the different requirements of each print.

Printing services took another dimension when the internet started gaining popularity. Printing service providers have their commercial websites that clients can visit from the comfort of their homes or offices and register orders after having a look at online printing samples.

Printing has always taken quantum leaps every time there has been a technological innovation. The best thing about this trend is that it will continue well into the future and keep enhancing the performance and cost effectiveness of printing services.

A Few Helpful Advice In Brochure Printing

Feb 9th, 2010 Posted in Business | no comment »

Brochures play a large role in the promotion of a business. They lend credibility to a business by presenting and explaining its products or services, company pedigree and other unique selling points in a compelling way. Since, they portray a great role as a publicity tool it is essential that they are designed professionally & printed in high quality. This article will give you some key points on brochure printing and design.

The brochure should be designed to look professional, eye-catching and informative at the same time. Along with smart use of colours, an appropriate composition of text and images is also very important in brochure design. Fonts, outlines, and graphics are vital components of brochure design and they should support each other well. In addition to being coherent and reader friendly, the brochure must also be good looking and not cluttered.

The brochure printing related considerations should also be paid heed to at the time of designing. It is recommended to get a sample output of the designed brochure to get a feel of how the final result will appear before sending it for a mass print job.

The design should be developed keeping in mind the brochure printing fund allocation. In case you have a constrained budget, you can always fall back on black and white printing as it is much less expensive than colour printing. However, if budget is not an issue and if vibrant and colorful brochures are what you seek, then thick and shiny papers should be chosen for sleek prints. If the brochure needs to be printed on both sides of the paper, then the paper chosen for such a product must be thick enough for fine quality printing.

Asking for discounts from the printing company is always a good strategy if large printing orders are placed. However, never sacrifice quality, as you do not want to create a poor impression of your business on potential customers.

The Working Of An Offset Printer

Jan 21st, 2010 Posted in Business | no comment »

Printing service is used by most organizations for varied reasons such as marketing and corporate communications. Therefore, it is important to have some fundamental knowledge of how printing works, especially offset printing, which is one of the most widely employed printing techniques.

Offset printing can produce a large number of prints quickly, which makes it less costlier than other techniques and also more well known. This is the reason good printing service suppliers suggest the use of offset printing for bulk prints.

The ink employed during offset printing has oil as the medium and is insoluble in water. Its name comes from the fact that in this process, images are not transferred directly from the plates to the paper but this is done using rubber blankets as a medium.

The process starts by developing the designs. When offset printing began, the images had to be developed by the use of film negatives and they were later put on aluminum plates. But, a modern printing company would now develop the plates directly by using an image setting system. After this, the plate is stuck to a cylinder with the right side facing upwards. Water and ink, in that order, is spread on the image plates. While the ink gets stuck to the image, the water gets attached to that part of the plate where there is no image so that the ink does not spread beyond the image.

After being painted with the ink, the image is kept on a rubber blanket which is on a different cylinder, leading the image to be inverted. Afterwards, sheets of paper of required proportions are put together and the rubber blankets transfer the image to the sheets on a third cylinder, where it comes out as the right side.

Printed sheets are stapled, pasted, or arranged in any other way as required and the printing company delivers them after giving some finishing touches.

Advancements In Brochure Printing In Recent Times

Dec 28th, 2009 Posted in Marketing | no comment »

Distributing brochures has always been a successful promotion strategy for any business. They can be circulated like pamphlets or posted at clients’ addresses, or can just be kept in retail outlets for customers to pick them up. As a result, a massive part of the printing services industry has come up to cater to this market. Brochure printing has undergone a number of advancements in recent years, with the dawn and widespread use of the internet heralding the latest of these developments.

At a time when computers hadn’t made their foray into brochure printing, the whole thing was a laborious activity involving use of plate-making tools and film negatives, and the particular tasks involved taking multiple test prints, making adjustments, and what not. Designing too was limited to a few set formats, and the printers carried out the designing task with the customer having nothing to do in the matter.

On the other hand, now brochures are designed, transferred to the printing company, and edited on computers, often by the customer himself, and the final product is printed and delivered within a much shorter time span. With technology progressing rapidly, immediate printing of numerous brochures and their quick supply within a matter of 24 hours has become possible.

It is important to keep in mind that brochure printing involves not just the imprint of ink on paper, but design, content creation and formatting too. With the advent of digital technology, printing companies have started to provide a range of benefits to the clients in this area, like high resolution colour printing, multiple choices in complicated formats and designs, and impressive packages on content-building.

Clients these days mostly prefer full-colour brochures and digital brochures amongst the latest types of brochures offered by printing services companies. These are normally suitable for brochures which will be distributed from medium to long-term. Any content for short-term high volume use is best promoted through the use of catchy, colourful, but concise brochures, which have only a limited print cycle. Off-set printing, which is a relatively older method, is still the preferred choice for these brochures as although it takes a longer time to prepare the brochures, a huge number of copies can be printed in a single run.

Nowadays brochure printing firms also offer supplementary services besides ensuring superior quality of prints for their customers. These include services like brochure design, direct mailing, distribution etc.

The internet has greatly altered the situation, with clients now visiting websites of printing firms and placing online orders after choosing designs and colour specifications from the comfort of their desk. Thus, brochure printing has witnessed radical transformations in recent times, and the possibilities of future change seem to be endless.
